The Cheltenham German Club will host a talk by author Simon Winder: "Germans across Europe - the many varieties of the German Historical Experience". The talk will be in English.
In his book “Germania” Simon covers great swathes of German history from the Wotan-worshipping forest tribes to the fall of the Weimar Republic in 1933. In his new book “Danubia” he sweeps though the Habsburgs. From their principal lairs along the Danube they ruled most of Central Europe and Germany, beginning with Rudolf of Habsburg, crowned King in Aachen Cathedral in 1273, and ending with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo in June 1914.
